"...I worked for about a month in the eight-track studio I'd built in the basement of my house, which was filled with Stratocasters, Gibson Les Pauls, a B. C. Rich Mockingbird, a double-neck, and custom guitars by Dan Armstrong. I was into an 'A' tuning for slide guitar and was writing and arranging things on a six-string bass tuned that way. I was way into the energy of the Sex Pistols, which I thought was another important thing from England that we should absorb. 'Holiday in the Sun' and 'God Save the Queen' and 'Pretty Vacant'.
That's where 'Bright Light Fright' came from. We'd work all night, crash at dawn, when the only thing on TV was the good morning news. (This was before cable, right?) You write about what you know, so I put this on tape, along with some demos and various raw things. I put a bunch of these cassettes in a cookie tin, brought them to the Cenacle and forgot about them. A month later, we ran out of material and Elyssa reminded me of the cookie tin. [...] I brought 'Bright Light Fright' to the band, complete with words and everything, ready to go. They didn't like it. I said, 'Do you want to do it or not?' They said no.
In the end, Jack [Douglas, the producer] talked them into it."

No final, Jack [Douglas, o produtor] os convenceu a grava-la."
